“What is Your Story” bustier by Karrie Ross on a pedestal made of books.

My Breasts Talking Book has been made into a bustier on a pedestal of books all with related titles. I have taken the book I wrote, “My Breasts Talking” and cut up the thoughts and glued them onto the bustier.

As with all bustiers in the series, the front is the beauty we show the world and the back is the dialogue that goes on behind the beauty. The back of this one sets the title of the piece, “What is YOUR Story?” as well as the copyright page and a further message.

There are 9 books being used as a pedestal, here are continue…

It’s just ART! Right? Opinions and mine have a basis of nothing other than my life experience. I observe. I participate. I am.

its-just-art-logo3I’ve been an artist for a long long long long time. There was a time when I didn’t feel qualified to make statements about art…

I’m older now and … and I no longer think that way.

I’ve had a dynamic career. I’ve hired and directed illustrators; directed copywriters and created headlines that get responses; wooed clients; sold fine art; sold design; sat in endless art-shows-in-the-parks in little white tents; my art has sold around the world; has been seen in movies, TV and retail stores;  I’ve been told my art is amazing; I’ve been told my art stinks; I design books and I help authors achieve their dreams of publishing a book; and more.

I’ve been told so many things my head spins with the memories… and now I’m going to put them, my memories, to use.

A STORY: A long time ago in a famous graphic design studio in Beverly Hills, the owner, a famous designer, asked me, at the time a production artist, to comment on a campaign his top designers just finished. ME! You should have seen their faces, the designers.

The owner said to me, “Karrie, you have such a unique way of looking at the world I would like to know your thoughts on this work before we present it …” and he proceeded to tell me about the project. He was impressed continue…

Show at Hale ArtSpace – Energy Blooms and Drop Dots

Combining the Series

Combining the Series – Blooming yellow; 20 x 20; oil, acrylic, ink, pencil on canvas

A selection of my “Combining the Series” using the series of Energy Blooms, Drop Dot and Beyond the Veil, will be shown at the Hale ArtSpace on Main in Santa Monica for a two week three person show. OPENING: Friday, January 11; 5 to 8pm.  2443 Main Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405

The work I’m showing is a combining of series. I’ve found that there comes a time when a painting is getting old…then “What do I do with it…now?”  is the question. I used to ‘paint over’ with a new series but this time I wanted to preserve the older one so I tried

2013 – 05 The Artists Journal

2013 – 05 The Artists Journal

One of the journals i kept.

One of the journals i kept.

Setting the scene… I’ll begin with the journal.

I met a little man today, who told me not to worry. He said that things will slowly change… except for those in a hurry.”

This was my first journal, at least the first one I actually filled with thoughts. I had one that was filled with sketches that was the 8×10 size as well.

I found I would write thoughts, observations, questions, poems, etc.  all the time on napkins, old envelopes, parking stubs…

2013 – 04 A little history about ….

2013 – 04 A little history about my work…

notes-journalsWriting about my history seems ever so strange to me. Maybe because I lived it. However, I am an artist and to own that, for me, says more than anything else I could write.

Skipping over the ages 0 – 18 years old living with my parents… I’ll move on to 19yrs old, just married, husband shipped off to Vietnam, me working at The Broadway Department Store as Santa’s Helper. There was, and I swear it, a ghost living in my little apartment. How did I know you might ask? Well, I’d finish dinner, wash and drain the dishes, go to bed and in the morning… the dishes were back on the table.  NOW I’m not one to sleep walk so you tell me…!!

The first year I lived alone my Christmas tree was 3ft tall, I went to the tree yard on Christmas eve asking for a deal and they gave it to me, I didn’t make lots of money so I crocheted little continue…

2013 – 03 I decided to sell my Bebuddies…

bebuddies-for-sale

Each new year as well as new time of life bring changes that when we see them and accept them and then take action to make them happen can bring us some amazing energy vibrations and a new perspective paradigm shift.

I’ve decided to sell of my line of characters, The Bebuddies. This is a big thing for me and it’s taken quite a few years to get to the place where I can see that I need to let them go. I can only hope that there is someone out there who see’s their continue…

2013 Holiday is Past and work-work begins

bow-i-am-dance-by-karrie-ross Years ago I painted lots more using watercolors. I painted a series titled “I Am The Dance”. It was of  dancers and the mixture of watercolor and pen & ink. I created a boarder and the dancers hands and feet broke through it… opening to the universe beyond. I used different weights of pen that created the wavy vibrations of the ink line. This one is titled “The Bow”.

I like this series.

2013 – 01 The New Year is Upon Us

2013 The New Year is Upon Us.

The tension builds within as I see the new year begin. I don’t seem to be able to get the thoughts to go in one direction, they scatter all over and then I’m exhausted.

Creating artwork is a process, sometimes… and other times it’s just a matter of doing something along the lines of, well, say painting. Picking up a canvas/paper etc and just making a mark or prepping the palette. When using a dry palette for continue…
